The Best Practices in Teaching curriculum offers the opportunity to learn research-based instructional approaches, apply these approaches in class, and reflect with colleagues on the outcomes. These approaches align with the domains in TILT’s Teaching Effectiveness Framework (TEF) and support you in integrating teaching practices shown to deepen learning and increase students’ academic success. The courses are also part of the TILT Teaching Effectiveness Initiative (TEI) curriculum.

Each course includes readings, videos, discussions, assignments and an opportunity to practice and reflect upon what you learn. Your active participation is an important part of each course, and the discussion forums are an opportunity for you to learn from one another. We encourage participant engagement within discussions as this encourages deeper thinking and sharing of information, ideas and experiences among you and your colleagues. All assignments must be completed to receive credit for a course.

The facilitated hybrid format allows you to engage with the courses asynchronously at convenient times while fostering substantive exchanges and dialogue among CSU instructors. Each course is offered in Canvas and takes three weeks to complete. While each course is asynchronous, there are due dates throughout the three weeks to which you should adhere.

After completing each course, you will receive a “Certificate of Completion,” which may be applied as professional development evidence for purposes of promotion, tenure, and annual review.
